Palmitos Salad

by Lizzy 11 November 2015 Food

It’s said life is what happens to us while we are making other plans. It’s a lesson I still struggle with as a perpetual planner. I cannot live without a calendar at home, work, and synchronized on my phone. As you’ve likely noticed though, I haven’t posted in months. I could make excuses, but I prefer […]

Glazed Carrots

by Lizzy 9 April 2014 Food

Sweet food should be relegated to dessert in my humble opinion. I don’t mind salt in my dessert, but don’t pair fruit in any form with my savory dish. The same goes for vegetables; I’m apt to choose fennel or spinach over corn or carrots any day. There’s just something candy-like and cloying I find […]

Brussels Sprouts with Bacon and Hazelnuts

by Lizzy 11 December 2013 Food

Have you noticed green vegetables have made a resurgence? Spinach, Brussels sprouts and kale (apparently now on its way out) have all held the limelight at one point in recent food history. And we just follow marketers when they tell us this or that formerly hated green vegetable is the next trendy superfood dissing the last one for the next. […]

Roasted Butternut Squash Gratin

by Lizzy 4 December 2013 Food

I’m the type of person who looks forward to the same meal every holiday. I like the predictability of knowing there are special dishes I can only enjoy at designated times throughout the year. When I’ve hosted Thanksgiving in the past, I’ve prepared the same menu, and it’s the same way with Easter. It’s a […]

Happy Thanksgiving Day

by Lizzy 28 November 2013 Food

In lieu of this week’s recipe post, I decided to partake in the gratitude ritual sweeping social media. As I prepare my Thanksgiving dishes to share with cherished friends today and later this weekend with my husband, I reflect on this year and remember I have a lot to appreciate. I’m thankful for my friends, family […]

Friday Find | OXO Fat Separator

by Lizzy 22 November 2013 Friday Find

I waxed poetic about potatoes earlier this week, but let me supplement by saying I love a good sauce. As one of my best friends noted, I like a little food with my sauce. You can probably guess I’m a big fan of gravy as it fuels my Thanksgiving love affair. I’ve made a lot […]

Rosemary Roasted Potatoes

by Lizzy 20 November 2013 Food

I was Irish in another life. Either that or there’s some Irish blood in my lineage my family’s unaware exists. I say that because I’ve always preferred potatoes to any other starch. Now that might not seem earth shattering, but as a Puerto Rican I risk having my heritage stripped away for favoring potatoes in […]

Friday Find | Chipotle Pumpkin Salsa

by Lizzy 15 November 2013 Friday Find

Rick Bayless is nothing short of genius. This isn’t breaking news, people. Not only are his restaurants some of my favorites in Chicago and O’Hare International Airport, he has a wonderful PBS show and critically acclaimed cookbooks in case you’re not convinced. Now he’s created a perfectly smoky pumpkin salsa. I’m officially head over heels […]

Pumpkin French Toast

by Lizzy 13 November 2013 Food

I have a confession to make. I’m kind of lazy. Not the throw-my-socks-next-to-the-hamper-instead-of-placing-them-inside kind of lazy. Instead I occasionally subscribe to the I’m-so-hungry-I-don’t-want-to-use-another-bowl-and-just-make-this-as-quickly-as-possible lazy. Most of the time this works and results in less dishes (yippee!). Other times, it backfires and I realize I should’ve just used the extra bowl and taken my time. Years […]

Crabtree & Evelyn Jojoba Oil Hand Recovery

by Lizzy 1 November 2013 Friday Find

If you’re as, ahem, particular as I am about washing your hands while cooking, you’ll appreciate any hydrating hand product. Especially during the cooler months, I find that my hands become exceptionally dry and itchy. Aside from copious amounts of thick, hand cream I find little relief.
